Eagle Mountain, Utah's Interactive Online Community - Daily News, Discussion and more Although this was not a public session (meaning that the public debate was not appropriate for this meeting), some tears and loud voices from the crowd convinced Bill Chipman to allow the pro-chain link folks to give their arguments to the committee. "I waited here 4 hours for nothing?!" demanded one attendee. They challenged commission members to drive past their houses and see how good chain link can look. Tricia Austin said, "Chain link is ugly. Cedar fence is fine but I cannot afford the upkeep. I can't afford vinyl either. So I have to use chain link. I was planning to do something nice with my fence. Maybe others won't."

NAQOYQATSI Film Home A motion picture experience beyond words, NAQOYQATSI merges the power of image and music to plunge into the heart of the hyperaccelerated, globally wired 21st century. Mesmerizing images plucked from everyday reality, then visually altered with state-of-the-art digital techniques, stream across the screen in synch with a hypnotic score by Philip Glass, featuring the passionate cello work of Yo-Yo Ma. Despite the film’s nonverbal nature, the ultimate effect of its starkly futuristic, computer-enhanced visual fabric is to get people talking about how technology is altering everything: media, art, entertainment, sports, politics, medicine, warfare, ethics, nature, culture and the very face of the human future.

Dabba wallahs: lifeline of Mumbai's working people (FEATURE) As part of the tiffin distribution process, every day the meals are picked up from commuters' homes in Mumbai long after the commuters have left for work, delivered to them on time, then picked up and delivered home before the commuters return.

Each tiffin carrier has, painted on its top, a number of symbols that identify where the carrier was picked up, the originating and destination stations and the address to which it is to be delivered.

After the tiffin carriers are picked up, they are taken to the nearest railway station, where they are sorted according to the destination station.

Suicide Watch - The strange case of Air Force Capt. Craig Button. By Atul Gawande What a strange suicide, though. Button had hardly any risk factors. True, he was male (women attempt suicide more often, but men succeed five times more). And he had long tussled with his Jehovah's Witness parents over his abandoning the faith (organized religion lowers suicide rates). But nothing else fit.

LRB | Anatol Lieven : The Push for War The most surprising thing about the push for war is that it is so profoundly reckless. If I had to put money on it, I'd say that the odds on quick success in destroying the Iraqi regime may be as high as 5/1 or more, given US military superiority, the vile nature of Saddam Hussein's rule, the unreliability of Baghdad's missiles, and the deep divisions in the Arab world. But at first sight, the longer-term gains for the US look pretty limited, whereas the consequences of failure would be catastrophic. A general Middle Eastern conflagration and the collapse of more pro-Western Arab states would lose us the war against terrorism, doom untold thousands of Western civilians to death in coming decades, and plunge the world economy into depression.

megnut.com - a weblog by meg hourihan I made the best batch of red spaghetti sauce I've ever made last night. Perhaps it's because the ingredients are all so perfect right now? Anyway, here's (roughly) what I did:

Quartered a bunch of Roma tomatoes. Put them in a large frying pan with a bunch of torn basil. Cooked over highish heat for approximately 10 minutes, until they had all broken down. While tomatoes were cooking, minced up four large cloves of garlic and diced half a yellow onion. Once tomatoes were done, I passed them through a food mill (medium-holed disc). Heated a good amount of olive oil (1/3 c.? Maybe even 1/2 c.?) in my (rinsed out) frying pan, added garlic and onion. Cooked over low heat until onions were transparent and kitchen smelled yummy. Tore up more basil, added to pan. Added tomato sauce, post-food mill. Add good pinch of salt and several cranks of fresh pepper. Mixed together and let cook down for about 10-15 more minutes while I rolled and cut pasta and cooked it. Result: sweet sauce, nice tang, smooth on tongue. Not just tomato flavor, it was a rich melange of all the ingredients, and perfect on the fresh linguine. [12:59 PM]

Zero-scaping or Xeriscaping? The most popular catch-word this drought year seems to be

Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar.

ESPN.com - GOLF - New-look Kerr comes full circle with Solheim berth Kerr had been on diets as a kid, but fast food always managed to creep back into her eating habits. She simply quit eating bad foods, quit eating anything fried while working in salads, smoothies and exercise. "If I eat something fast, it's a turkey sandwich or a smoothie,'' she said. "You have to look for a healthy option.''

The changes have helped Kerr's game. She finished 15th on the 2000 money list and missed the Solheim Cup team that year when she three-putted the last green at the Safeway Classic, the final qualifying tournament. Last year, she had five top-10s and was 28th on the money list.

Page 2: We Make Some Noise
Maybe I'm a prejudiced old crab, but I don't like or trust these guys. They don't seem as interested in trying to make a difference as they do in trying to make trouble. Essentially, it seems to me like they want their lives to be part of a grand drama, and for that they need dashing young heroes, (themselves) an unattainable goal, (anarchy) and a corps of snarling, scheming villains. (The Forces Of Repression, i.e. cops or anyone involved in government) The drama doesn't work if the Fs of R fail to try and destroy the noble heroes, so these guys are the ones you most often see provoking the police and trying to start a fight.
